Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence, A Product That Will Change How We Feel About Sunscreen

Saturday, October 13, 2018
Any skin expert would tell you how important it is to wear sun protection. Unfortunately, most people opt to skip it. This is partially because of the lack of good products in the market. Majority of sun protection products are too thick, leaves a white cast, uncomfortable, gives a heavy, sticky and oily feeling and most of all, clogs pores. I, myself, admit that I am guilty of this skin care mortal sin. If you feel the same, then I have some amazing news for you. Klairs, a popular K-beauty brand, recently launched the Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence. It claims to be the "sunscreen that will change the way you feel about sunscreens and UV protection for good". Luckily, I was chosen as one of the first people to get to try it during their launching event. Let's see if it impresses a sunscreen hating freak like me.

About the Product

The Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA++++ is an everyday sun protector for sensitive skin. As is it water-based, it holds a gel-type texture to give a soft, weightless and light finish. Also with its high SPF and PA level, it completely guards the skin against UVA, UVB without leaving any greasiness or white cast.

As all Klairs products, this sunscreen is Vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. This also completes their Freshly Juiced Line which includes: Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop (review here) and the Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask.

Recommended For People Who:

  • Want light, non sticky sunscreen
  • Do not like white cast
  • Have sensitive skin
  • Want to reapply sunscreen over the makeup
  • Do not like to apply sunscreen

My Experience

Packaging

Just like the other products from the Klairs Freshly Juiced Line, it comes in a minimalist looking white tube with hologram details. I personally like that it looks elegant and simple. The label is a bit off-centered though. I'm not sure if that's just for me or if this was intentional. Whatever, it is no biggie. The product size is also great (80ml), more than any other popular sunscreen.

Scent

I was pleasantly surprised that it had no scent at all. It doesn't have that typical sunscreen smell. Most sunscreens I have tried have a strong chemical-like smell, which is very bothersome. Scent-sitive people will love this.

Texture

Although Klairs describes this to be a gel-type sunscreen, I don't think that's entirely correct. It looks like a cream, but not totally as it absorbs extremely quick. It does not have the same moisturizing/greasy properties of a cream. Maybe a gel-cream hybrid is the perfect description for this.

Application

It applied smoothly on my skin. A small amount could easily cover the entire face. My face absorbed it quickly. I immediately noticed how light it is, it's like I haven't even applied anything. The "Airy" part of its name is definitely correct. This is a plus, especially for people who apply a lot of layers in their skincare routine. It left no white cast and my skin had a semi-matte finish.

Results

The Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence is a very light weight sunscreen, the lightest one I have tried (or probably in existence?). It incorporates well with the rest of my routine and my skin had no negative reactions to it. It's even the other way around, my skin loves it! It sits great under my BB Cream and doesn't make it cake-y or oily. I don't feel hot, greasy or uncomfortable at all. I'm not a hundred percent sure about the brightening effects though. I still use the Freshly Juiced Vitamin Drop (see how this worked for me here) and would attribute all brightening effects to it.

Like all Dear, Klairs products I have tried thus far, I am very impressed with the Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence. It is hands down the best sunscreen I have ever tried and completely changed how I feel about sun protection. I feel protected from the sun's harsh rays without being uncomfortable. This is a sunscreen that I would gladly apply all over my face, everyday for the rest of my life. That's how much I am in love with this product. It's like everything I ever hated about sunscreens is eliminated. I highly recommend this to everyone who isn't a fan of applying sunscreen, like me.

Huge props to Klairs on this one. It is clear that they listen and care about their customers' concerns. Don't you just appreciate brands like that? I will always be a fan and I can't wait for whatever they come up with next.
